The most recent move in the NBA had the Seattle Supersonics moving to Oklahoma City and leaving the city they called home for over 40 years. It was a heartbreaking experience for fans in the city but they had one form of consolation.
That was in keeping the Supersonic name in case they were awarded a new franchise.
Justice was partially served in that city, but when other franchises have moved the same hasn’t happened. With Sacramento possibly slated to leave for Aneheim or Seattle or Las Vegas this summer, it’s time to fix the names in the NBA.
Utah Jazz? Los Angeles Lakers? Charlotte Bobcats?
Fix em all!
Give the Jazz name back to New Orleans because last time I check Utah doesn’t have a prolific jazz scene. How many lakes are in LA? Give the name back to Minnesota because they are the land of 10,000 lakes.
Bobcats can get the Hornets name back from New Orleans since that’s what they originally were. Utah can pick whatever name they’d like. Timberwolves? Bobcats? Honey Badgers? Sure go for it. LA is a tougher choice for a team name. LA Stars? LA Sharks? LA Groove? LA Botox? That fixes one problem.
The 2nd is the problem is with divisions in basketball. Oklahoma City is still in the Northwest Division. Oklahoma isn’t even close to the northwest region of America.
Move them to the Southwest division with the 3 Texas teams and New Orleans. Then move Memphis to the Central division (eastern conference) and slide Milwaukee to the Northwest division and rename it the North division. Since Memphis is almost as far East as Milwaukee anyways, they will fit in fine with the Eastern conference.
Let logic prevail and have some true regional rivalries develop along with names for cities. Time to go to Utah and find a good Jazz bar.
